On February 23, 2026, the President of the Lao PDR, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, sent a message of congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, to celebrate the 42nd National Day of Brunei.
In his message, President Thongloun said: “On behalf of the Lao people and on my own behalf, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty and all the people of Brunei Darussalam on the honorable occasion of your 42nd National Day.
“We highly value the great and comprehensive achievements in nation-building and development that the people of Brunei Darussalam have achieved under the resolute and wise leadership of His Majesty. These efforts have ensured Brunei Darussalam’s continued stability, strong development, and increasingly prominent role in the region and the world.”
“The Lao PDR attaches great importance to strengthening the excellent friendship and cooperation of the strategic partnership with Brunei Darussalam. We are committed to strengthening these relations to bring tangible benefits to the people of our two countries, as well as to promoting peace, stability, and cooperation for sustainable development in the region and the world.”
The President concluded by wishing His Majesty the King and his family good health, and expressing hope for the continued prosperity of the Bruneian people.
On the same day, the Prime Minister of Laos, Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, also sent a congratulatory message to His Majesty the King. In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, also sent a congratulatory message to Dato’ Erivan Pehin Yusof, the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam.
