In an effort to strengthen its energy sector, Laos is accelerating its transition to clean energy with the goal of achieving sustainable progress.
A report from the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce reported on Wednesday that a national dialogue on accelerating the clean energy transition was held in the Lao capital, Vientiane, on Tuesday, bringing together government officials and international partners to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the country’s clean energy transition.
The meeting focused on assessing the current state of the energy transition and identifying key challenges and priorities, exploring areas where domestic cooperation and support from development partners, including the Energy Transition Council (ETC) Rapid Response Facility, would be most effective.
Participants also discussed options for strengthening Laos’ electricity grid to support greater renewable energy integration and facilitate cross-border energy trade, as well as formulating the necessary policies and regulatory frameworks for an equitable energy transition.
Laos aims to boost its electricity sector by increasing renewable energy, primarily solar and wind, to 11 percent by 2030, a drive to improve efficiency, sustainability, and support long-term economic growth.
