The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a nationwide warning of continuous and heavy rains as Tropical Storm Matmo approaches, urging people to be vigilant and prepared for flooding and landslides.
The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour and is expected to cross the Philippines before entering Laos, bringing thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rains to some areas in each region from October 3 to 7, according to a report by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on Friday.
Authorities are urging communities and local authorities to be vigilant and take precautionary measures. The heavy rains could cause landslides, flash floods, and urban flooding in many areas.
Several provinces in Laos are experiencing widespread flooding due to continuous rainfall. As water levels continue to rise and the ground is saturated from previous storms, the risk of further flooding is high. Residents are advised to monitor and follow local authorities’ advice.
