Vietnam plans to build a new subway line within three years, with operations expected in 2028.

Ho Chi Minh City, the capital of southern Vietnam, will begin construction on a new subway line on December 19, 2025, with an estimated investment of US$3.3 billion, according to Infocase and the Vietnam News Agency.

The Ben Thanh-Can Gio subway line, 53 kilometers long, runs through eight communes and districts and is scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2028. The line, using standard double-track railways, is expected to carry more than 43,600 passengers per day and have a designed maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
