More than 80 countries have supported Brazil’s proposal to negotiate a “plan” to phase out fossil fuels at the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) currently underway in Belem, Brazil, according to a report by the Voice of Vietnam on November 18, 2025.
At the same time, some countries have called for raising expectations for negotiations and addressing the root causes of climate change, which have increased significantly in recent days.
The buoyant mood was clearly demonstrated at a press conference held the same day, attended by ministers from Colombia, Spain, the United Kingdom, Kenya, Germany, Sweden and Norway, all major oil and gas producers.
Brazilian President Lula da Silva has raised the idea of a plan at COP30 and has made it a top priority on the conference’s work programme. /
