The Lao State Fuel Company has launched a new fuel import route through Vietnam’s Nghe Son Port to enhance energy security and ensure a stable fuel supply to northern Laos.
The route begins at the Nghe Son Special Economic Zone Port in Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, and continues through the Nam Kang International Checkpoint in Xieng Khuang Province and the Nam Soi International Checkpoint in Huaphant Province.
Huaphant TV reported that the fuel will be stored at the Na Thong Oil Depot in Sam Neua District, Huaphant Province.

The opening ceremony for the route was held at the Na Thong Oil Depot, attended by Dr. Khampheng Xaysomphaeng, Governor of Huaphant Province, and Mr. Bounyok Boutsavong, Deputy Director of Lao State Fuel Company.
The Lao State Fuel Company stated that the new route offers a comprehensive solution to enhance energy security, reduce reliance on a single oil transport route, and provide an alternative to oil imports, aligning with the government’s goal of stabilizing the nationwide fuel supply.

This route will ensure sufficient fuel for households, businesses, and growing industrial activities in northern Laos, which is undergoing rapid development and expanding infrastructure needs.
The first shipment on this new route transported more than 2,600 tons, or approximately 3.2 million liters, of Euro 5 diesel. This high-quality, low-emission Euro 5 diesel meets environmental standards and reflects the company’s commitment to clean energy.

This project will also strengthen relations between Laos and Vietnam, particularly between Huaphan and Thanh Hoa provinces, by developing trade and logistics links.
Lao State Fuel Company stated that the opening of this new route marks an important step in ensuring energy security and promoting economic development in the region.
