Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi agreed on Friday (May 22) to develop cooperation aimed at strengthening supply chains for energy and key minerals.
The agreement came during talks in Tokyo amid supply instability linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Thongsavan expressed support for broader energy and resource resilience cooperation, or Powerr Asia, a new framework designed to support energy cooperation with Asian countries.
The initiative was announced last month by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
Motegi also welcomed progress in exchanges between Japan and Laos in various fields.
He cited the visit of Princess Aiko, daughter of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, to Laos last November as an example of strengthening bilateral relations.
