By 2025, the value of trade between Laos and Vietnam is projected to reach nearly US$3 billion, guided and supported by the parties and governments of both countries.

Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, a member of the Central Committee of the Lao Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently reported to reporters on the progress of increased cooperation between the two countries under the leadership of the 11th Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the 13th Vietnamese Communist Party.

He stated, “Vietnam is one of the major investors in Laos, and both countries aim to achieve a two-way trade value of US$5 billion in the near future.”

Numerous joint projects have been successfully implemented, stimulating the economic and social development of Laos and economic integration between the two countries. Under the continuous care and guidance of the party and government leaders, Laos and Vietnam have achieved significant success in cooperation across many areas.

Political and diplomatic relations continue to be strengthened and intensified, and both countries have agreed to add the term “strategic partnership” to describe their close ties.

All of this demonstrates the deep political trust and shared commitment of both sides and both states to elevate the special relationship between Laos and Vietnam to a new level. To align with the interests and aspirations of the people of both countries and to actively contribute to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

Defense and security cooperation continues to be strengthened as a key pillar of relations between Laos and Vietnam, helping to maintain political stability and ensure national defense, security, and social order in both countries.

Both countries continue to maintain security and peace along their borders and maintain order, while economic, trade, and investment cooperation has increased and achieved remarkable success.

Laos and Vietnam also have close social and cultural cooperation. A prominent example is the UNESCO inscription of Hin Nam No National Park in Khammouane Province as a World Natural Heritage Site. This park is adjacent to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh Province, Vietnam, and the two are inextricably linked.

Mr. Thongsavanh stated that ministries, organizations, sectors, and localities in Laos and Vietnam have cooperated to implement the agreements made by the Laotian and Vietnamese leaders, and that bilateral cooperation during the 2021-2025 period has achieved its set goals.

What is remarkable in the fourth quarter of 2024 and in 2025 is the resolute effort to improve the content, plans, and strategic cooperation projects that are crucial to the development of each country, Mr. Thongsavanh said.

This helps to build confidence in the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and lasting strategic partnership between Laos and Vietnam.
