The Japanese government is providing 2.865 million yen under the project to improve hospitals in 4 southern provinces of Lao PDR to develop effective treatment; so that patients do not have to travel long distances to receive treatment at hospitals in Vientiane, etc.

The signing ceremony of the grant was held yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed on behalf of the Lao PDR government by Ms. Phongsamod Anlavan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and on behalf of the Japanese government by Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR.

The grant is in response to the demand for local medical services in the Lao PDR, enabling local people to access necessary treatment and reduce long-distance travel for essential medical care.

In addition, this project also aims to improve hospitals in the southern provinces, turning them into regional medical centers to receive patients from neighboring provinces, which will involve building and upgrading infrastructure to meet standards, enhancing technical capabilities, providing sufficient medical equipment, including transferring Japan’s achievements and experiences in improving medical quality, upgrading the efficient patient referral system, and ensuring patient safety to provincial hospitals in the four southern provinces of the Lao PDR.
